Calculation Standards
Road freight rates are calculated in "tons per mile" (T/mile). There are generally two calculation standards: one is a basic freight rate based on the cargo class, and the other is a basic freight rate based on the road surface class. When a transport route includes two or more different road classes, the freight rate is calculated separately for each class based on the actual mileage traveled. For special roads, such as mountainous areas, riverbeds, or open fields, the rates are negotiated separately by the carrier and the freight carrier.
Freight Rates
Road freight rates are divided into full truckload (VL) freight and less-than-truckload (LTL) freight. The latter is generally 30-50% higher than the former and applies the LTL rate. Goods weighing one kilogram with a volume exceeding four cubic decimeters are considered lightweight cargo (or measurement cargo). Freight for full truckload lightweight cargo is calculated based on the vehicle's rated tonnage; for LTL lightweight cargo, the volume is calculated based on its length, width, and height, with every four cubic decimeters equivalent to one kilogram, and the unit of charge is kilogram. In addition, there is a lump sum rate, which is calculated based on the time (hours or days) of vehicle use.
