This refers to IATA's classification of air transport operating areas. IATA divides the world into three major regions, each further subdivided into several smaller regions.

IATA Region 1 includes all of North and South America and their adjacent islands (Greenland, Bermuda, the West Indies, the Caribbean islands, and the Hawaiian Islands). This region is further divided into three smaller regions: the Mid-Atlantic Region, the North Atlantic Region, and the South Atlantic Region.

IATA Region 2 includes all of Europe and its adjacent islands, all of Africa and its adjacent islands, and western Asia, including Iran. This region is further divided into three smaller regions: the African Region, the European Region, and the Middle East Region.

IATA Region 3 includes all of Asia except for IATA Region 2 and its adjacent islands; Australia, New Zealand and their adjacent islands; and the Pacific islands except for those in IATA Region 1.

IATA Region 3 is further subdivided into the South Asian subcontinent subregion, the Southeast Asian subregion, the Western Pacific subregion, and the Japan and Korea subregions. The People's Republic of China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the area east of the Ural Mountains in Russia are all included in the Southeast Asian subregion of IATA Region 3.

In formulating its freight rate regulations and related provisions, IATA has taken into full account the social, economic, and trade conditions of various regions around the world. Therefore, this classification is not entirely consistent with geographical divisions.
