Road transport emerged in the late 19th century with the advent of the modern automobile. Initially, it primarily handled short-distance transport. After World War I, driven by the development of the automobile industry and the increase in road mileage, road transport entered a period of rapid development, becoming not only the mainstay of short-distance transport but also expanding into long-distance transport. Following World War II, road transport developed rapidly. Many European countries, as well as the United States and Japan, have established relatively advanced road networks, and the automobile industry has provided a strong material foundation, propelling road transport to a dominant position in the transportation industry. In developed countries, road transport accounts for approximately 90% of the total passenger and freight turnover of all modes of transport.
The importance of the transportation industry has rapidly increased with the continuous development of our economy. The development and changes in both passenger and freight transport have become crucial parts of national economic development, with road transport being of paramount importance within the transportation sector.
