Food logistics has distinct characteristics compared to logistics in other industries:
First, to ensure the nutritional content and safety of food, food logistics requires a high level of cleanliness and hygiene, placing high demands on logistics equipment and personnel.
Second, because food has specific shelf-life and expiration dates, food logistics has strict standards for product delivery times, i.e., lead times.
Third, food logistics has specific requirements for the external environment, such as suitable temperature and humidity.
Fourth, fresh and frozen foods account for a large proportion of food consumption, therefore, food logistics must have a corresponding cold chain.
